The goddess of fortune whose Roman equivalent is FORTUNA. She is the presiding tutelary deity that governs the destiny, fortune and prosperity of a city. Many cities in the Hellenistic period adopted their own version of the goddess, often seen wearing a crown like the walls of the city. Her genealogy varies. She is often depicted as the daughter of HERMES and APHRODITE, or perhaps as one of the OCEANIDS, daughters of OCEANUS and TETHYS or ZEUS PINDAR. She is connected with NEMESIS and AGATHOS DAIMON ('good spirit'). In medieval art she is depicted as carrying a cornucopaeia, an emblematic ship’s rudder, and the wheel of fortune, or she may stand on the wheel, presiding over the entire circle of fate
