Rumina is female, Rumino male. They are the protective deities of suckling cattle specifically, their function extended later to nursing mothers and breast-feeding. They received offerings of milk, and are symbolised by two fig trees in a grotto, the story being that they are the personification of the Ficus Ruminalis, the suckling fig in the Romulus and Remus legend. A sanctuary to Rumina was located at the foot of the Palatine Hill. They were worshipped by Palatine shepherds along with JUPITER Ruminalis
