Daughter of the king of Latium, LATINUS, and Amata, and the last wife of hero AENEAS. She and Aeneas had a son, Silvius. According to Virgil, her hair catches fire during a sacrifice the the gods, and this is seen as a good omen for Lavinia and the Latins. Livy, writing later, has Lavinia ruling the Latins as regent for her young son Ascanius
