Kintu is the first human, living alone with his cow. Creator god GULU lives in heaven with his many children, but comes to play on earth. On one of these occasions, Gulu's daughter NAMBI meets Kintu, falls for him, and takes him back to heaven to meet her father and ask his permission to marry him. Gulu suggests they leave heaven secretly to avoid the attentions of Nambi's brother WALUMBE ('sickness and death') but on the way to earth Nambi realises she has forgotten millet for her chicken and returns to heaven, where she is spotted by Walumbe, who then accompanies them to earth
