Gong-Gong is an unfortunate Chinese water-god described as being responsible for great floods and the tilt of the Earth's axis. He has a human head of copper with an iron forehead and is usually depicted as having red hair and either a serpent's body or a human body with a snake's tail. In legend he challenges the fire-god ZHU-RONG to a fight which he loses. In anger he smashes his head into one of the supporting pillars of the Earth, which tilts the Earth's axis
